The Pergamon Museum is situated on the Museum Island in Berlin. The Pergamon Museum houses monumental buildings such as the Pergamon Altar, the Ishtar Gate of Babylon, and the Market Gate of Miletus reconstructed from the ruins found in ancient Middle East and Turkey.

The museum is subdivided into the antiquity collection, the Middle East museum, and the museum of Islamic art. It the most visited art museum in Germany, and is one of the largest in the country.

The Brandenburg Gate is one of the best-known landmarks of Germany. It is built on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg.

When the Revolutions of 1989 occurred and the wall was demolished, the gate symbolized freedom and the desire to unify the city of Berlin.

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is a memorial in Berlin to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. It stelae are designed to produce an uneasy, confusing atmosphere, and the whole sculpture aims to represent a supposedly ordered system that has lost touch with human reason.

The Berlin Wall was a barrier that divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. The barrier included guard towers placed along large concrete walls, which circumscribed a wide area ( known as the "death strip") that contained anti-vehicle trenches, "fakir beds" and other defenses.

Its demolition officially began on 13 June 1990. In practice, the Wall served to prevent the massive emigration and defection that had marked East Germany and the communist Eastern Bloc during the post-World War II period.
