Barcelona's town hall
The City Council is one of the four public administrations with political responsibility in the city of Barcelona, together with the General Administration of the State of Spain, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Diputación de Barcelona. It has its historical origins in the Consejo de Ciento.
Since 1979 its political leaders have been elected by universal suffrage by the citizens of Barcelona with voting rights, in elections held every four years.
